Thank you

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say thank you for an awesome year. Being able to create and run ARC at Tigard High was a great experience. We got a lot of work done this year, from volunteering monthly at the Oregon Humane Society, to putting on a video showing of Earthlings for the school. So thank you to my club officers, and also to the club members, for participating in events, attending meetings, and making THS ARC possible.

We had our last meeting of the year today. If you have not turned in your money/wristbands yet, they are late, and Renae is now going to start sending you angry messages until the club is reimbursed. So get that done!

We also had Mrs. Johnson (Maggie's mommy) come in and speak to us about some volunteer work she does for animals. She gave each of us a list of information of animal rights groups, sanctuaries, and other groups. Her email is kboelling@verizon.net in case you have any questions.

Finally, we let the 4 new officers take over the club. Your future president Ally talked about different ideas she had to keep ARC active next year (doggie walk, Petco Adoption, etc). VP Stephan also brought up the possibility of volunteering at the Oregon Zoo.

So that's about all. Thank you again for a great year, and I wish ARC the best of luck next year! :)

Meeting Minutes: 5/11/10

The Earthlings video showing was a success. We had over 25 students attend! Thank you to all who helped set up.

If you still have wristbands/money to turn in, the deadline to do so is May 25th. After this date, Renae Weiss will start sending notes to classes.

We also elected our club officers for the 2010-2011 school year. Congrats to next year's ARC leaders.

President- Ally Edwards
Vice President- Stephan Nguyen

We also have our last Oregon Humane Society volunteer visit on Saturday, May 22nd (1-3pm). If you are on the list below, please remember that you must arrive on time. If this will be your first time volunteering, you will need a waiver form.

Our last meeting of the year will be May 25th, same time, same place. Your new officers are just going to give a quick preview on what to expect in the upcoming year. We hope to see you there!

Meeting Minutes: 4/30/10

At this week's meeting, we mainly discussed our upcoming video showing of "Earthlings." It will be shown after school in room 223 on Thursday, April 22nd. We will offer free snacks (which we hope will entice people to come...) The key to this event is to publicize it, so tell your friends. The officers are going to ask a few teachers to offer extra credit for attending, so hopefully that'll help a little. This video has a very important message: that animal abuse IS PREVELANT and must be given attention. Attendance is required of members.

ARC Officer elections will be held on our first meeting in May. There are 4 positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Consider running, it'll look good on college apps, and you'll be able to make a difference by leading one of THS's few volunteer clubs. Any club member is elegible, regardless of age.

One more quick reminder: our Bonnie L Hays shelter tour is Saturday, April 17th. Attendance is required for members, and we promise you'll have a fun time.

Club attendance has been generally good, until this week's meeting. Your officers can only do so much for this club; remind old members of meetings. Bring new friends. Tell anyone who you think will be interested to check us out at our next meeting. ARC still has potential to finish the year as a strong THS club, but we need your help.

Thanks.

Meeing Minutes: 2/23/10

This week we provided the OHS sign-ups again...we still have many spots to fill up, so please sign up if you can. Working with the animals at the OHS is a very fun way to get volunteer hours, so you definitely don't want to miss out. Invite your friends to volunteer with you, it's a fun time for everyone.

And our fundraiser is still going...some of you still have yet to sell your required 10 wristbands. Please get this done, the last thing your officers want is to leave you guys with a bunch of unsold wristbands for next year. And we still have about 30 wristbands left in Renae's locker...a fabulous prize will be given to the top seller, so sell! (And remember to tell potential buyers the proceeds go towards the HSUS, an national anti-animal abuse organization).

IMPORTANT: I got in touch with Shirley Toth today (the volunteer co. from the Bonnie L Hays shelter) and she will be meeting with us at Tigard High at 3:00p this Friday in the conference room (in reception). If you are available after school on Friday, you must come attend this meeting...I promise it won't be very long. This is another potential source for club activities, so it's important that we are in attendance.

Our meeting schedule has been weird for the past month, so thank you to those who came this week. Club attendance is still ok, but it has dropped a little bit...ARC has been one of the stronger new clubs this year at Tigard High, so lets keep it that way.

ARC Meeting Minutes: 1/26/10

Today we put up sign-ups for the rest of our OHS visits for the year. One for March, April, and May. They're posted below. There are still a lot of spots to fill up, so if you haven't volunteered yet, or want to do it again, sign up! The club members from the December and January visits all reported that they had a GREAT time! Don't miss out!

Our Treasurer also had more wristbands available for checkout. It is ok if you haven't turned in your money yet, just DO NOT lose it! And we also announced that we will be offering a PRIZE to our top seller! So sell, sell, sell! (remember to tell our buyers that we will be donating half of our proceeds to the HSUS)

Finally, our Secretary announced that ICC will be organizing a school carnival at the end of the year, run by the THS clubs. ARC will be participating in this because all of the profits we make will go directly to our club account. So be thinking of ideas for our carnival booth.

Thank you to those of you who came today. Next meeting, we will hopefully have more volunteer sign-ups for other animal shelters. Also be thinking of ideas for club activities to help address animal rights. We have been concentrating on animal community service, and we need to focus a little bit more on animal equality. See you Feb. 9th.

ARC Meeting Minutes: 1/12/10

Our VP and Secretary represented our club at Club Rush 2 this morning. We managed to publicize our club and catch the interest of a few more students.

At the meeting, we went over the OHS Volunteer list for this Saturday. Below is the list of volunteers. If you are on this list, please be sure to COMPLETE your WAIVER FORM. As of this morning, we had no one's form. If you don't bring it on Saturday, you will not volunteer. Below are also links for directions to the OHS and extra waiver forms, if you need them.

Our Treasurer handed out the wristbands for our club fundraiser! Remember, the organization we are donating the proceeds to is the HSUS (Humane Society of the United States), a charity dedicated to stopping animal abuse, in case anyone asks. Your officers will be offering a prize to the club's top seller, so be sure to sell them to your friends, teachers, etc!

Today was kind of confusing due to club rush... thank you to those who came to the meeting. At our next meeting (January 26th) we will be handing out more sign-ups for our future OHS volunteer dates. We will also be discussing ideas for other club activities, including other shelters to volunteer at and ways to raise awareness of animal rights. We'll also have wristbands if you need to check out more.

Thanks!

Patrick Browne
ARC President
